Fright-Mares!

Okay, so it's been a week now that I have been off the sugar (or should I say desserts). I would like to report that it is getting easier, but that would be a lie.....Here's the score:

Disposition? Ornery and irritable--no change
Cravings? Yes
Weight loss? Well, I thought I was going to report the sad truth that there was no change there either, but this morning the scales dropped 2 lbs. I will have to hold off on that report to see if the 2 lbs come back tomorrow--as usual

Then to top it off, I have been having these fright-mares (and you thought I was going to talk about Lagoon--Ha! No). I wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat because I dreamed I was with my sisters mindlessly popping handfuls of M&M's in my mouth. That was day 1. Day 2 came with Kimber and her homemade cookies. After I ate 3 of them I woke up in a fit of shameful guilt....I'm not sure I can handle this. The torture during the daylight is one thing, but all night long too?! Spare me! There ought to be a few moments of refuge at night, don't you agree?

So, Laura, how are you doing? This seems like a blog between you and I, so why not? By the way, are you planning on going to Joanne's boutique? I tried calling you today to see if you wanted to go to the Sassy Bliss boutique with me, but you were avoiding my calls, so I didn't go. Hope there wasn't something to die for there! Are we going to hit the boutique circuit this year?

New Look

Hey Ladies, how do you like the look of the blog? I was going to do a couple designs but ya know what... it took way to long just to make this one. I think we're stuck with it for a while until I feel we need a change.
Hope you all have a lovely UEA weekend.

Sugar Free

Carl recently had a meeting in New Hampshire and I decided to go along. On the plane there I was reading a magazine. There was an article about low energy, irritability, PMS, etc., along with some suggestions for countering these. One of the suggestions was to eliminate sugar from your diet. I spent a few days contemplating this, trying to decide if this was too drastic a move for more energy and an improved disposition. One afternoon about half way through our trip,as Carl and I were driving around enjoying the beautiful fall foliage, I told him about the article and that I am thinking of giving up sugar. He glanced at me and said - well, let me start with what he didn't say, which would have earned him way more brownie points. He did not say, "What are you talking about? You are never irritated. You are like a breath of fresh air every time I see you. And, honey, if you are tired in afternoons let's find someone to come watch the kids so you can catch a well deserved cat nap." No, he said, "That's a good idea." The next thing he said was, "Are you going to start right now?" Is he insane? Give up sugar half way through a vacation where we are eating out 3 times a day and passing Cold Stone on a regular basis? I looked at him like he had two heads and let him know that wasn't my plan. At this point what he should have said is, "Well, now is not a good time to start anyway. Halloween is coming up and I know how you like to run a safety check on the kids candy. Then comes Thanksgiving, I'm sure thankful for you, by the way. And then Christmas is right after that. You should just hold off till January if you think you should go forward with this crazy plan." No, instead he asked me when I am starting. He even offered to do it with me. This would have more meaning for me if he were a total sugaraholic like me. He picks the chocolate chips out of cookies, for crying out loud. If I had known this before we married, by the way, it might have been a deal breaker. But, I digress, he wanted to know my start date. I finally decided I would start as soon as I got off the plane from our flight back to Salt Lake City. So, this began 4 days of having dessert at lunch and dinner and buying a candy bar to eat on the plane. Needless to say I felt very prepared to kick the sugar habit when I got home. Now, here I am a big 4 days later, with a raging headache. On restrospect, maybe a gradual weaning would have been more prudent on my part. Anyway, I'm sure you are probably wondering why I'm sharing this with you. There are actually a few reasons. First, I read (I need to stop reading) that if you have a goal you should tell a lot of people because it make you more committed and accountable. Second, if you are with me at a social function and I look like I am preparing a swan dive onto the dessert table maybe you will stop me. And finally, since misery loves company, I'm wondering if anyone wants to do it with me. It's guaranteed to end your PMS and irritability and increase your energy. At least that's what I'm counting on...

Making things pretty...

Okay, so I signed up to be an author. I think this will be pretty fun if I can think of anything clever to write about.

If you guys want me to decorate this site and make a blog banner I don't have permission to change those kinds of settings right now (Laura??). I can only write posts. Maybe I'll make a couple of mock ups, post them here, and you all can vote. That would be fun, eh?

Maybe think about what you'd want the blog banner to look like. Something about girlfriends, hot coco or brownies, computers all linked together, pink and frilly...

Brain storm ladies!! and leave your ideas here as a comment.

SUPER excited about this----

I have been taking some of Jessica Sprague's scrapbooking classes. I've really enjoyed them. My favorite part of taking a class (that I have to pay for) is that it actually makes me sit down and scrapbook something, not just dream about it while I'm folding laundry (yes, the laundry is left undone when I'm taking a class--that is why I have to pace myself! :) )

Anyway, back to the point.....Jessica is offering a FREE class! I'm so excited and wanted to share with you and everyone you know! Her classes are awesome AND you ALWAYS have access to the information (you know, like FOREVER). You will always be able to go back and refer to her videos, etc. when you take her classes.

Here's the flyer:

And here's the link to her blog where you can read more about it. Or you can go to jessicasprague.com. The SUPER great thing is that this class is for everyone--scrapbookers and non-scrapbookers, so I hope ALL of you will join me in Nov for this class. It's about telling the stories we don't have photos for, or the ones we don't think we have enough pictures for.....afterall, isn't that what this is all about? Telling the stories of our lives? Capturing the little moments inbetween the big ones?

I'm excited! Just wanted to share!

A Place for Friends

As many of you know, I'm all about the party. I love getting together and hanging out with friends. These real parties, however, are unfortunately few and far between. As I was thinking about my friends and how hard it can be to get together I decided if we can't hang out in person maybe we can hang out online with a blog. So, I created this blog with the hopes that we will use it to keep each other updated on our lives, share information with each other and just talk about things.

There are a few ways you can hang out on the blog. One way is to just read the blog and make comments ono what other people have written. Another way is to be an author of the blog. They have a limit of 100 authors so I think that should cover things. You have to be invited to be an author so if let me know and I'll add you to the list.

Also, I want this blog to be open to anyone that could like to be involved so feel free to share the address with your friends. There's always room for one more. Well, at least there will be until we reach 100...

So, please, if you have anything you'd like to chat about this is the place to do it. I think we could have fun with this if we will all be open and supportive of one another. And no topic is off limits. If you want to talk about it so do I.

Love, Laura
